ABOUT ME

David Olamide

Gameplay Engineer

I am a self-taught gameplay programmer from Nigeria. I studied computer engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. Having 5+ years of experience in the games industry, I am equipped with hands-on, industry-level skills and experiences. I began making games back in 2017, in my first year at the university.
With a passion for playing and creating playable experiences, I self-learnt many of the skills that have helped me thrive in the industry today, especially during the time when game development was still at its cradle in Africa and the industry was in its early days. With an understanding of the fundamentals of computer science and system design, I started working on personal game projects to hone my skills and build a portfolio. I equally collaborated with some of my colleagues who had a similar passion to work on projects together.
Two years later (in 2019), I started the first game developer community at my university and was able to inspire and mentor fellow students who would later become well-established in the games industry. I believe so much in teamwork and the power of collaboration in executing powerful projects that this burning passion led me to start an indie game studio with some of my university colleagues.
I co-founded the independent game studio “Dimension11 Studio” in December 2022 with some fellow Nigerian game developers who were former students at my university. The goal was simple. We discovered that there was a lack of African game content that depicts culture and story narration in the games industry. The studio was established to promote African stories through games. We began work on our first title, “Legends of Orisha: Blood and Water,” which is an African action-adventure role-playing game set in the pre-colonial era of West Africa. I lead the gameplay engineering team on the project.
I have worked with some amazing game studios in the United States, the UK, and Europe. I specialize in gameplay engineering, which includes AI programming, game systems programming, animation programming, UI programming, network programming, and optimization. I enjoy writing C++ and solving problems. I am a fast learner and a team player.
I have received recognition for my great work in the games industry from respectable organizations and entities around the world. These include:
  • Global Game Jam Devcom and Gamescom Scholarship 2025
  • GDC Global Game Jam Scholar 2022
  • My studio won an award in the “one-to-watch” category of the Games Industry Africa Awards, 2022.
  • Winner of the African App Launchpad (AAL) Cup in 2021
  • IGDA Foundation Virtual Exchange Program Scholar 2021
  • IGDA Foundation Diverse Game Developer Fund Awardee 2021
  • Winner (Theme-Fit Category), Africacomicade Gamathon 2020
  • Finalist: Naija Game Evo in 2020.

While I am not playing or making games, I enjoy travelling, playing musical instruments (trumpet and violin) and reading books.
